Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a doctor's referral?
No, you don't. In New York State, licensed physical therapists are permitted to perform an evaluation and provide physical therapy for 30 days or 10 visits (whichever comes first) without a prescription from a physician. We will gladly assist you with the process of obtaining a prescription, should you need one. Our wellness and fitness programs do not require a physician's referral.
Do you take my insurance?
Thrive is completely out-of-network with all insurance companies. If you have a private insurance with out-of-network physical therapy benefits and wish to submit a claim, we are able to provide an itemized receipt for services rendered in order to help you do so. Please note, Thrive is not enrolled with Medicare and Medicare will not reimburse for our services. If you wish for Medicare to pay for any services that might be considered covered benefits, you should seek those services from a Medicare enrolled provider. If you are a Medicare beneficiary and would like to request treatment or have questions, please contact us at (585) 851-8259.
Why don't you accept insurance?
Thrive's focus is providing our clients with the highest quality neurologic physical therapy and wellness services based on the most up to date research in the field. Because we are such a small practice, working with insurance companies would significantly dilute our quality of care, both because of the heavy administrative burden, and the restricted amount of therapy they are willing to “cover.” Unfortunately, insurance reimbursement has declined significantly to the point that most outpatient providers must see 2-3 patients at a time just to keep their doors open. Thrive's physical therapy sessions are always one-on-one to ensure that you have the undivided attention of an expert clinician.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel or reschedule a private appointment, please provide us with at least 24 hours notice so we can do our best to fill your spot with another client in need of service. Cancellations made less than 24 hours prior to the session will be charged $75. Exceptions may be granted for extenuating circumstances.
Group exercise classes are pre-paid at the beginning of each new class series. If you are absent for a group exercise class, you will not be refunded for that class; however, you are permitted to schedule a make-up class, as long as space permits. We allow 1-month after the missed class to schedule the make-up class date.
How far will you travel?
We are able to travel 15 miles from Henrietta, NY. If you are outside of this radius, we are still able to come to you but there is an added travel fee of $25 per visit for up to 30 miles from our home base to account for the increased distance/travel time.
How long will I need physical therapy?
We see most (but not all) clients 2-4 times per week for 3-6 weeks. This frequency and duration is based on research that has demonstrated improved outcomes when people with Parkinson’s work with a physical therapist at a more intensive frequency. When you do complete a course of physical therapy, we will help to make sure you are set up with an individualized wellness program (either with Thrive, in the community, at home, or a combination of those options). Further, due to the progressive nature of Parkinson’s disease, we recommend a “checkup” 6 months after your discharge from PT to ensure that you’re maintaining your gains and that no new therapy needs have arisen.
Do you see clients who have other conditions besides Parkinson’s?
Absolutely! As a board certified neurologic specialist, I have extensive experience working with people who have various neurologic conditions including stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, and cerebral palsy. I’d love to speak with you directly to discuss your unique situation and goals, and to determine how Thrive's offerings can serve you best.
